Addis Ababa (Ethiopia Today) July 27, 2023: A high-level delegation led by Gebremeskel Chala Ethiopia’s Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, is currently engaged in talks at the headquarters of the World Trade Organization (WTO), located in Geneva, Switzerland.
The delegation is conducting discussions with key officials of the WTO as well as representatives of selected member countries and development partners.
This visit marks an important milestone in Ethiopia’s renewed efforts to join the WTO, as negotiations for accession resumed in January 2020 after an eight-year hiatus. While progress has been sluggish since then, this year has witnessed a significant surge in momentum with the formulation of crucial policies and regulatory frameworks.
As the country strives to become part of the largest trade organization, comprising 164 member nations, the Ethiopian delegation aims to expedite the accession process and unlock new horizons for its economic growth.
