Addis Ababa(Ethiopia Today) June 17, 2023:- The Ethiopian Airlines Group announced that it has amassed 6.1 billion USD in the current Ethiopian fiscal year.
Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew said that the group’s income surpassed that of the past year same period by 20 percent.
The CEO pointed out global economic slowdown, the Russo-Ukrainian war and the increase in fuel prices have remained the pressing challenges for the global aviation industry in the reported period. Despite such hurdles, the airliner is managed to secure 6.1 billion USD by transporting 13.7 million passengers and 723,000 tons of cargo in specified period.
“We have received 11 new passenger planes in the fiscal year, thus bringing the total number of passenger planes to more than 140. We have also converted two passenger planes into cargo planes, increasing the total to 15 in the fiscal year.”
The performance is in line with the 2035 growth strategy, it was learned. It was also learnt that Ethiopian launched seven new flights including Copenhagen, Atlanta, and Karachi in the reported period. Established on 21 December 1945, Ethiopian serves a network of 125 passenger destinations- 20 of them domestic-and 44 freighter destinations.
The airliner has secondary hubs in Togo and Malawi. Ethiopian is Africa’s largest airline in terms of passengers carried, destinations served, fleet size, and revenue. It is also the world’s fourth-largest airline by the number of countries served.
