
Addis Ababa( Ethiopia Today) May 26, 2023: Tigrayan forces handed over group weapons today in the presence of representatives of the African Union Monitoring, Verification, and Compliance Mechanism (MVCM) at a special place called Lachi, near Mekelle city.
The handover is part of the Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (#COHA) and the subsequent Nairobi Declaration of the Executive Plan on disarmament of Tigrayan forces.
According to government media, Brig. Gen. Derbe Mekuria, a representative of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF), and Brig. Gen. Mgbey Haile, a representative of Tigrayan forces, attended the handover.
During the event, Brig. Gen. Mgbey said that Tigrayan forces are doing their part to ensure the implementation of the agreement.
South African Colonel Tefo Sekole represented the AU/MVCM. Regional media quoted him as saying that the communication and handing-over processes were carried out without any hindrance in accordance with the Pretoria Peace Agreement.
