Addis Ababa (Ethiopia Today) March 5,2023:- The survey found that only 10 out of 180 hotels met the fire risk safety standards that raise Concerns about the safety of hotels in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
The survey, conducted by Addis Ababa Fire and Disaster Risk Management Commission, also found that only 25 out of 17,519 institutions in the city fulfilled the requirement.
The Commission emphasized that all newly built hotels must meet the standards set by Regulation No. 132/2014 “Disaster Risk Safety”, while existing hotels are required to at least meet the latest standard.
The Commission warned that institutions that fail to implement the guidelines set forth in the regulation will face legal consequences.
The survey results have sparked concerns about the safety of hotel guests and workers. The Commission has urged all hotels and institutions in the city to prioritize fire risk safety measures to ensure the safety of all.
