The Lawmaker of Ethiopia approved a draft bill for Public- Private- Partnership (PPP) in response to the deepening trend of neoliberal economic policies.
In the session held yesterday, the parliament approved with a majority vote after a “lengthy discussion” on the issues, according to Ethiopian News Agency.
According to Desalegn Wodajo, chairperson of the Standing Committee for Plan, Budget and Financial Affairs, the Bill is believed to play a bigger role to enhance economic growth .
He added that the bill is useful to encourage projects under Public-Private Partnerships.
Amending the bill was needed to enhance the quality of public service delivery infrastructures and to address challenges experienced so far, it was emphasized.
Lawmakers thoroughly discussed the draft bill by bringing the experience of other countries that have implemented PPP and its role in catalyzing growth and development to the country.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration has been boasting about “homegrown economies” as a guiding principle for economic groups.
